About Spring Mountain Ranch State Park
Spring Mountain Ranch sits at the base of the Wilson Cliffs on the southern edge of Red Rock Canyon. The original ranch was assembled by Bill and Vera Krupp in 1944 and later owned by Howard Hughes (1967–1972) and German actress Vera Krupp's second husband. Nevada State Parks took over in 1974. The ranch house and outbuildings are open for tours, but the bigger draw is the green lawn fed by spring water — one of the few patches of grass in the desert — and the Super Summer Theatre, an outdoor amphitheater that runs Broadway musicals from June through August. Day-use fee is $10 per vehicle. Pair with a Red Rock scenic drive — the entrance is on State Route 159, two miles south of the Red Rock visitor center.
