About KÀ by Cirque du Soleil

KÀ opened at MGM Grand in 2004 as the most expensive stage production ever mounted, at a reported $165 million. Robert Lepage directed. The central technical conceit is the absence of a conventional horizontal stage — the show is performed on a 25-ton steel platform that rotates, tilts, and lifts into any angle the director calls for, including a full 90-degree vertical cliff face. The narrative traces a pair of separated royal twins in a quasi-feudal Asian setting, and the martial-arts choreography and pyrotechnics run heavier than in any other Cirque resident production. At 90 minutes with no intermission, it moves. The KÀ Theatre was custom-built for the production and can't easily host any other show, which is part of why the production has now run for more than two decades in the same room.
